Ryu Im-Lyang
Abstract
This research attempts to develop a career model for in-home long-term care workers, and then propose the plan of institutionalization. The career model includes creating a new status for senior care workers and a new role for them as well. For this purpose, a focus group interview was conducted on the supports for care workers and managers who participated in the project of ¡°Seoul Supporting Center for Elderly Careworkers¡± . As a result of this research, we found out that developing a career model is important for improving the quality of care service, strengthening the capacity of care workers, providing compensation and job prospects for the workers. The roles of senior care workers include on-the-job training for care workers, support of service users, sympathy and support for frontline care workers and so on. To implement a career model, there are several conditions that are taken into account. They are£ºrequirements for senior care workers, level of wage, education and training. Based on the results, this study suggested the necessity, vision, and plan of institutionalization of (tentatively named) ¡°yoyangbohojidosa¡± model and the qualification and the role of ¡°yoyangbohojidosa¡±, operation and reward system.
